A quirky double storey container-style home straight out of the Flintstones is the hottest property in Queensland right now, beating mega mansions with its off-grid charm and 2.1ha block.
Unlike anything on the market right now, its walls are brimming with glass inlay – made by laying bottles like bricks in the walls – with an indoor open-air rock bath laid into the floor and even a Roman-style drop toilet to complete the off-grid adventure.

Latest data from realestate.com.au showed the amazing three bedroom creation – which comes with a massive 2.1 hectares of land in pristine forest – was the most viewed home in Queensland this week. Its one-of-a-kind Flintstones feel saw homes in some of the hottest suburbs in Brisbane and the Gold Coast unable to surpass it.
It beats most houses for indoor-outdoor flow with windows that open right up to the forest and most of the main living done outdoors in a massive covered space complete with wood burning stove and seating built into a sidewall.
Agent Sonia Poole of Ray White Cairns Beaches described it as “delightfully different” in design, backed up by sustainable off the grid features.
“Wow. If you are looking for something that allows your imagination to run wild, offers you a space to call home that is totally off the grid, private, functional and one of a kind you will be very happy with this unique opportunity.”
Located in Kuranda a “mountain town” where things to do includes the Skyrail and ancient walking tracks, the home at Lot 12 Oak Forest Road, was transformed over the last two years taking it from ramshackle off-grid shed to something totally unique.
Ms Poole said it was “loads of improvements is an understatement”, with the property having edible gardens, two rainwater tanks, solar power, two sheds, and a solid structure with living and sleeping areas.
Kuranda has seen strong growth as demand for Queensland regional properties surges, with prices rising 13.3 per cent in the last five years, according to CoreLogic data.
Homes there generally sell with 84 days, but this one is on the market for less than a month with its auction scheduled for July 20. Rents in Kuranda come in at about $450 a week, CoreLogic said.
