While GenZ cancelled skinny jeans for women long back and switched to wider and baggier fits, the same is now evident in menswear, too. Designers and celebs are broadening their appeal, quite literally, and embracing wide-leg, flared denims and trousers for men.
On the international scenario, French luxury fashion house, Dior, showcased boot-cut style for men at the Paris Fashion Week. Back home, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh, too, were seen adopting the wider silhouette. Feels like it’s time to stop being so narrow and go back to the retro times.
Designer Nachiket Barve says, “It’s cyclical. The last we saw wide-leg pants were in the early 2000s. The resurgence is also because, after being cooped up for more than a year, people want a change now.”
Fashion experts also feel it takes one back to the style of the 1970s. Stylist Vikram Seth suggests, “High-waist flared pants paired with buckle belt, Chelsea boots and a printed shirt, with a few top buttons open, will look great. A little element of fun could be added by playing up some accessories or a sling bag.”
