No coercive steps to be taken against unaided school’s forum says ECI to HC | India News

MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Friday disposes petitions filed by Unaided School’s Forum, independent English schools and international schools challenging notices they received from election authorities after ECI “no coercive steps are intended to be taken as apprehended.”
The Forum represented by senior counsel Mihir Desai challenged the notices issued last year by the Thane collector that had sought information of school staff for the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll duty.But ECI counsel Pradeep Rajgopal with advocate Drishti Shah informed a bench of Justices A S Chandurkar and Jitendra Jain that no requisition notice was yet issued for poll duty and the HC said his statement would take care of any apprehension of the school managements and disposed of the petitions.
Desai on his clients’s instructions said a list of all the members of the-Associations would be given to Collector, Thane by 6th April 2024. The HC accepted the statement
After arguing the Writ Petition for some time, Desai,had submitted that each Petitioner-Association would persuade its members to volunteer themselves for undertaking election duties on the dates scheduled.The HC was informed that training sessions in that regard would be held on 06.04.2024 or 07.04.2024, 11.05.2024 or 12.05.2024 and 19.05.2024. This is besides the actual polling day which is 20.05.2024. The HC was told that attempts would be made to persuade the members to volunteer accordingly.
