Mumbai, July 27: Suzuki Motorcycle India has voluntarily recalled nearly 4 lakh scooters and bikes manufactured in 2022 between April 30 and December 3. As a part of this recall campaign, the two-wheeler maker will address an issue caused by a faulty high-tension cord, which is installed on the ignition coil. More than 3.8 lakh 125cc scooters have been affected by this recall, which includes Suzuki Access 125, Burgman 125 and Avenis 125.
The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has listed the number of affected scooters by the recall as 2,63,788 units for the Access 125, 52,578 units for the Avenis 125 and 72,045 units for the Burgman Street 125. It’s worth noting that the brand’s highest-selling scooter, the Activa, is not a part of this precautionary recall. The owners are being contacted to get their vehicles checked at the authorised Suzuki India service centre and get the issue rectified. If an issue is found in the recalled vehicle, it will be resolved by the company at any additional cost to the customer. 2024 Hero Xtreme 160R 4V Launched in India.

This precautionary recall is being issued because of a faulty high-tension cord installed to the ignition coil that may cause issues like engine stalling, starting failure, speed display error and engine not starting. As per the recall document, Suzuki describes it as follows – ‘Since high tension cord which did not meet the drawing requirements (NG) was installed to the ignition coil, crack and breakage occurred in high tension cord due to repeated bending caused by engine oscillation during running, resulting in engine stall and starting failure. Further, when a cracked high tension cord is exposed to water, the vehicle speed sensor and throttle position sensor may be damaged by the leaked ignition output, resulting in speed display failure or starting failure.’ BMW CE 04 Launched in India.

Interestingly, Suzuki India has issued a separate recall for the V-Strom 800 DE, dated July 20, 2024, due to a potential threat to the rear tyre. About 67 units of the adventure motorcycle manufactured to date are affected by this recall. The recall document elaborates on the issue as follows – “Affected vehicles may have been equipped with a rear tyre that can develop cracking or other deformation of the tyre tread. In the worst case under continuous use, portions of the tyre tread may separate from the tyre structure and impact overall vehicle dynamics. The company will replace the rear tyre of the affected V-Strom 800 DE without any additional cost to the owners.
