NCP MLA Sunil Tingre, who represents the Vadgaonsheri Assembly seat in Pune, will go on hunger strike Thursday to protest the failure of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take up basic civic infrastructure work in the constituency. PMC was ruled by the BJP in the previous five-year term that ended last year and is presently governed by an administrator appointed by the state government.
Tingre has been raising the issues of blocked roads, water problems, and traffic-related issues in his constituency with PMC which was ruled by the BJP but has always complained of non-cooperation by the civic body.
тАЬIt was the last resort for me to be on hunger strike as despite repeated demands and follow-ups PMC was delaying the work on basic civic facilities in the Vadgaonsheri Assembly constituency,тАЭ Tingre said while announcing his strike outside the civic bodyтАЩs headquarters.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from the Vadgaonsheri constituency in 2019 by upsetting the then-sitting Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Jagdish Mulik, who is now the BJP Pune unit chief.
Tingre said he would continue to fight unless the civic issues in his constituency are resolved. There is an urgent need for flyovers, decongestion of city roads, water problems in Lohegaon, Khandobamal Road and Development Plan roads, and slum rehabilitation work, he added.
