NCP campaign on SC Shinde govt verdict in Pimpri-Chinchwad today; Shinde Sena says Pawar party should get its house in order first
The Sharad Pawar-led NCP will launch a campaign across Maharashtra, including Pimpri-Chinchwad from Tuesday and Pune city later in the week, to talk to people about the Supreme Court ruling on the Shinde-Fadnavis Government. Hitting back, the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the NCP campaign will be a “wasteful act” and that the party “should first look inwards”.
On Monday, Nationalist Congress Party leader Jeetendra Ahwad had said that 50,000 booklets will be published and distributed among the people to spread information about the SC verdict.
“Besides, we will hold meetings with intellectuals, advocates, doctors and people from different strata of the society to explain the verdict to them in simple terms…The entire judgement of the Supreme Court is against the Shinde-Fadnavis government. Yet, the BJP and Shinde group are putting on a brave face and are lying to the people that the SC verdict was in its favour,” he had said.
On Tuesday, NCP State spokesperson Mahesh Tapase told The Indian Express, “There will be seminars, symposiums, and meetings with the general public about the Supreme Court verdict which has held that the Shinde-Fadnavis government was illegal. The Supreme Court stopped short of restoring the Uddhav Thackeray Government just because he had resigned. Had he not resigned, it means the SC would have restored the government”.
“All this shows that the Shinde-Fadnavis government is illegal and unconstitutional. It is the highest court of the land which is saying it and therefore we will take this ruling to the people across the state,” added Tapase.
NCP Pimpri-Chinchwad unit chief Ajit Gavahane said they will launch the campaign across the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad from Tuesday. “We are planning to hold meetings among our party men first and then we will start meeting people at meetings and symposiums. The campaign will be carried out simultaneously by our party workers and leaders in their respective areas,” Gavahane said.
Senior NCP leader Ankush Kakade, who is known for his proximity to Sharad Pawar, said the party is also gearing up to launch the campaign in Pune. “We have invited Ahwad to come to Pune and address party workers and leaders about the SC verdict. Once he explains it to us, we will take it to the people across Pune city. The meeting with Awhad will take place this week,” he said.
Asked whether they plan to launch a similar campaign, Naresh Mhaske, spokesperson for the Shinde Sena, said, “The NCP is trying to indulge in a wasteful act. It will be wasting people’s precious time, effort and energy. The SC ruling is self-explanatory. There is no need to explain it to people. People have nothing to do with it. The apex court has clearly said it cannot restore the Uddhav Thackeray government as the then CM had resigned on his own after losing majority.”
Mhaske said NCP should first get its own house in order. “NCP chief Sharad Pawar, his daughter Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, and State chief Jayant Patil all are speaking in different voices. When its own house is in disarray, it is trying to provide a shield to the Uddhav Sena and trying to serve as its spokesperson. The NCP should first look inward..,” he said.
