NEW DELHI: Stating that the Centre and the Jharkhand government have decided that the Jain site of Sammed Shikharji will remain a place of pilgrimage and not be converted into a tourism hub, National Commission for Minorities chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura on Wednesday said authorities have also been asked to add the word тАЬholy/ religiousтАЭ to the notificati on in place of tourist site.

NCM took up the matter with the Jharkhand government and the ministry of environment and forests. The Centre and the Jharkhand government have decided that it will remain a pilgrim place. No alcohol or meat will be allowed there,тАЭ Lalpura said at a press conference at the NCM headquarters in Delhi.
A hearing in this matter was held in NCM on Tuesday, he added. тАЬThe concerned authorities have been advised to review the govern-ment noti fication to add the word тАШholy/religiousтАЩ so that the sanctity of the area can be maintained. This will resolve the long pending demand of the Jain community,тАЭ Lalpura said . He said that the Jharkhand government has assured that it would issue an official order in the matter soon.
