Navi Mumbai, Ocotber 11: In a shocking incident, a constable smuggled narcotics worth INR 10 lakh into Taloja Central Prison, allegedly with the intention of selling drugs to undertrials known for their addiction. The 38-year-old constable, Anil Jadhav, concealed the contraband in his tiffin box bag while reporting for his night shift on Wednesday, October 9. During a routine security check, as he reported for night duty, authorities discovered the drugs hidden beneath his tiffin. The narcotics included ganja, charas, and MDMA, raising significant concerns about prison security and prompting Jadhav’s arrest.

The case came to light when jail hawaldar Jaywant Jadhav, who was responsible for monitoring the entry of staff and vehicles, noticed the unusual weight of Anil Jadhav’s bag during a routine inspection. Upon further investigation, he uncovered a black plastic bag containing the illegal substances. The alarming discovery led to an immediate response from prison authorities, who recognised the potential threat to both inmate safety and the integrity of the correctional facility. Following the discovery, the matter was escalated to the Kharghar police, who quickly arrived at the scene.
