The mystery of a woman found covered in blood on a rock at sea in Croatia has reportedly been solved.

The woman – believed to be in her 60s – was originally spotted waving at a fisherman from a jagged outcrop of land of rock off the island of Krk.

The man called for help and a team of 14 people used 4x4s and walked two miles across jagged rocks on the isle to rescue the woman who has been said to speak English “like a professor.”

She was not carrying a passport, papers, or phone and was reportedly dehydrated and emaciated. Officials said she was so weak she could barely take a sip of water. It was reported the woman had no memory of who she was.

Her belongings, made up of her backpack and purse, were on Tuesday found on a rock in the northern Adriatic sea around 500 metres from where she was rescued on September 12.

The fisherman who called for help said he had seen the mystery woman just a day before.

He said: “We saw the woman on the shore in a very inaccessible part. I thought maybe she was on a walk because she didn’t show that she needed help. She didn’t wave, call or anything. The next morning we saw the woman in the same place, it was already suspicious to us now. We saw her nervously walking up and down and when she saw us, she started yelling and waving.”

Police issued an appeal to identify the woman as no one came forward.

However, people in Los Angeles claim to recognise the woman as Daniela Adamcova, a jewellery maker in Hollywood.

The Sun reports that Daniela’s jewellery has appeared in films and TV show Friends. A string of A-listers including Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross and Brigitte Bardot as said to be fans of her designs.

She is said to be originally form Slovakia and has spent time living in the UK and Ireland.

The woman found on the isle of Krk was described as 5ft 4in and blonde by police.

According to sources, her accent drifts between “professional English” and Eastern European. It has been said the woman speaks like a professor.

The Sun says it was press coverage of the woman being found that has led to her mystery being solved.

A friend of Daniela, Kelecic Miriam, from Slovakia who is now living in Croatia, told the Sun she recognised her and posted a photograph of her holding necklaces on Facebook.

She said she contacted Croatian police, who had also been informed of her identity by Slovakian journalists.

Other friends in LA also recognised her.

Nina Smidt told The Daily Beast the woman was Daniela, known as Dana, who worked as an artisan at a company where she was a manager in 2015. She had been placed there by a charity that helps the homeless, she said.

The company’s landlord Tyler Madsen allowed Dana to live there rent-free so she could save up money before moving to Ireland the same year.

She said: “I recognised the woman in the photo immediately. The second I saw her picture, I sent it to Tyler to confirm that it was her, which he confirmed.”

Tyler added: “One hundred-per-cent – there is no doubt in my mind it’s her.”

Friends have said Dana liked to travel alone.
