While Hollywood could never bring a Spider-Man and Superman in a movie together, Bollywood did that years ago in a 1988 Hindi film without a goddamn care for copyright issues. Now James Gunn has discovered that iconic scene where Superman and Spider-Man romance each other and calls it his favourite ‘Superman’ movie. James Gunn, in his tongue-in-cheek manner, called his favourite ‘Superman‘ movie, is Dariya Dil, starring Govinda and Kimi Katkar in the lead. The movie is most remembered for the song “Tu Mera Superman.” Composed by Rajesh Roshan, the song was sung by Mohammed Aziz and Sadhana Sargam.
What’s the most striking feature of “Tu Mera Superman” is its picturisation – a wacky dream sequence where the leads, played by Govinda and Superman, imagine themselves to be Superman and Spider-Man respectively. The whole song sees them fly, dance, romance and even fight some bad guys. Once upon a time, Govinda left us baffled when he publicly claimed that he was offered the lead role in James Cameron’s Avatar, and what’s more, he was the one to suggest the title of the movie. While we are not sure how true the story is, at least Govinda can take comfort in the matter that his old movie is now getting international attention, even if the scene is quite the butt of jokes these days.
