A concerned mum has been left wondering what is wrong with her daughter’s packed lunch after her school friends refused to play with her.

The distraught parent asked for advice online after her little girl’s friends commented on her ‘gross’ lunchbox.

A photograph of her meal shows a cheese stick, a sliced apple, olives, cucumber, sausages and a brown rice cake packed neatly into a pink and purple zip-up bag.

Writing on Facebook, the mum said: “I’m over lunchboxes.

“Every time I pack something my daughter complains that the kids say it’s gross and they don’t want to play with her. Seems like Nutella sandwiches are the only things they don’t tease her about.”

The mother said she did not know what to pack for her daughter but her packed lunch was defended by hundreds of others online.

People shared their opinions of why her daughter might be excluded or bullied by her classmates.

“Kids can be so mean. That looks like a healthy lunchbox,” one person commented.

“I can’t believe kids would be so mean to say another child’s lunch is gross and refuse to play with them. The food looks great,” another parent said.

One person commented: “Kids often do this when they’re jealous as well. Might be something to look into, definitely talk to the teacher.”

While another person attributed it to “bullying and said “the problem is deeper than your lunchbox”.

They added: “You should speak with a teacher, why would kids abuse her for what she eats?”

Some parents took to the group to share similar experiences with their children.

One person said: “When my son was in year 2, he took prosciutto and deli meats with cheese to school.

“A girl told him it was disgusting and he shot back that it wasn’t his fault she didn’t have a refined palate.”

Another parent recalled hearing a story from a teacher about a child who was sent to school with a single slice of bread covered in blue hair dye for lunch.

“Trust me, you’re doing an amazing job. The lunch looks great,” they added.

Another mum said: “Girls are so b****y. My daughter has had the same problems since she was nine. It’s awful.”
