Mumbai, August 6: A 30-year-old man was brutally murdered by two men with hearing and speech impairments in a chilling case that unfolded after a party. The victim was attacked with a hammer and a sharp object following an evening of alcohol consumption at the residence of one of the accused. The incident came to light when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable noticed blood seeping from a suitcase carried by the suspects at Dadar railway station.
The grim sequence of events began on Sunday evening, August 4, when the accused, identified as Shivjeet Surendra Singh and Jay Chawda, both with hearing and speech impairments, invited their friend, the victim, Arshad Ali Sadiq Ali Shaikh, to a party at Chawda’s residence in South Mumbai. After consuming alcohol, a violent altercation ensued. Singh and Chawda allegedly assaulted Shaikh with a hammer and further inflicted fatal injuries with a sharp object. Following the assault, the two men packed Shaikh’s body into a suitcase in an attempt to dispose of it. Their attempt to dispose of the body was intercepted at Dadar railway station. As Singh and Chawda struggled with the suitcase, an alert RPF constable noticed blood seeping from it. Suspicious of the situation, the constable called for assistance, which led to the opening of the suitcase and the discovery of Shaikh’s body. Chawda was detained at the scene, while Singh managed to flee, prompting a manhunt. To communicate with Chawda, the police enlisted the help of a sign language expert, who facilitated the interrogation. Chawda’s statements led to Singh’s identification and address, prompting a manhunt. Singh was eventually apprehended in Ulhasnagar. The police investigation, as reported by the Indian Express, revealed that the motive behind the murder was a personal dispute involving a love triangle. Both accused had been vying for the affection of the same woman, and Shaikh was believed to be blackmailing Chawda with compromising photos of his girlfriend. The case continues to be under investigation as authorities piece together the motive and full circumstances surrounding the crime.
