Mum who guzzled 21 cans of Red Bull every week sheds seven stone to swerve diabetes – World News

A mum who guzzled 21 cans of Red Bull every week has dropped seven stone after ditching the fizzy drink.

Dilay Acur, 26, was addicted to the energy drink which contains more than two teaspoons of sugar per can.

The mum of two drank three per day for over a year and scoffed two dinners per night along with snacks.

Tipping the scales at 15st 6lbs, Dilay from Sydney, Australia, says she was on the verge of diabetes.

Dilay’s supportive husband Erdi, 32, forked out £7,000 [$12,640] for gastric sleeve surgery which involves the removal of 75 per cent of her stomach.

The stay-at-home mum said: “I used to drink three cans of red bull per day as my body used to crave it.

“I didn’t drink it for energy – I just loved the taste.

“Doctors used to tell me off and say I should stop drinking it but it was almost like I needed it.

“I had the same feeling at night time after my dinner.

“After about an hour, I’d crave another portion like I hadn’t just eaten.”

Dilay admits feeling ‘disappointed’ with herself as her frame got bigger.

She tried to diet but an overactive thyroid known as hyperthyroidism made weight loss difficult.

Dilay underwent surgery last July at Hurstville Private Hospital in Sydney.

She said: “My health was on the line as I had an excessively fatty liver and was almost pre-diabetic.

“My skin became scaly like a reptile.

“I suffered from acid reflux and heartburn – I knew I had to change my ways.

“I had a serious chat with my husband who is a subcontractor and we agreed weight loss surgery is the best option.

“My doctor referred me and then I was set to go ahead.

“I can’t thank Erdi enough for being so supportive.”

But the surgery wasn’t the easy way out, Dilay needed to change her bad habits.

She was forced to stop drinking Red Bull to ensure the gastric sleeve worked to it’s advantage.

She said: “Adjusting to a smaller stomach and new diet was so hard.

“But totally worth it.

“I used to feel disgusted by my appearance before but now I couldn’t be happier.

“I have so much natural energy and I am able to play with my children Ayaz, four and Ayla, two, without needing a break.

“It isn’t just my body that has changed but my mentality too.

“I am so much more positive and comfortable in my own skin.”
