A woman allegedly stabbed her four-year-old daughter to death in their apartment in the Hadapsar area of Pune Monday (March 27).
The police identified the deceased as Vaishnavi Wader and her mother as Kalpi, 43. The incident at Sasane Nagar came to light around 9 pm, said the police.
“The girl and mother lived in the rented apartment and were to vacate the house soon to move to another place. The landlord of the flat had been trying to contact the mother for a long time since Monday evening. She did not respond to repeated knocks and calls from the landlord and neighbours. She finally opened the door around 9 pm. The people got suspicious as the girl was not seen around anywhere. They found the girl lying in a pool of blood in one of the rooms.” said an officer from the Hadapsar police station.
The neighbours then informed the police control room. Senior inspector Arvind Gokule said, “Primary probe suggests that the mother murdered the daughter by stabbing her. No other family member lived with them. We are investigating the reason behind the murder. According to preliminary information, the mother runs a cake and pastry shop. We have arrested the mother and begun a detailed probe.”
