More downtime at Stellantis minivan plant in Ontario, Canada

Just days after Stellantis resumed minivan production at its factory in Windsor, Ont., the company said Wednesday that it will idle the plant for two more weeks.

тАЬStellantis continues to work closely with our suppliers to mitigate the manufacturing impacts caused by the various supply chain issues facing our industry,тАЭ the company said in a statement. тАЬDue to the unprecedented global microchip shortage, production at the Windsor Assembly Plant will be down the weeks of June 7 and 14th.тАЭ

The plant has been running this week, but not at full capacity. The automaker didnтАЩt elaborate on the number of shifts or vehicles it intends to produce this week.

Until production resumed this week, the plant had been down since March 29.

Roughly 4,500 people, the majority of them Unifor members, build┬аthe Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Chrysler Grand Caravan in Canada and Chrysler Voyager in the U.S.

Stellantis sold 1,434 Pacificas in Canada during the first quarter of this year, up 113 percent over the same time last year. Its Grand Caravan sales were down 59 percent to 3,396.
