Mini Recharged program offers EV option to owners of classic models

Classic Minis can go electric through a new program from the British brand.

The program, called Mini Recharged, is available to owners of cars from the pre-BMW era, beginning in 1959. Workers at the factory in Oxford, England, remove a car’s engine, transmission, gasoline tank and other parts and install a modern battery-powered drivetrain.

Each engine is labeled and stored so the conversion can be reversed later, if desired.
