Mercedes-Benz GLB Discontinued in India Likely Due to Poor Sales, Company Expected Launch Next-Gen GLB Variant Soon
New Delhi, April 21: Mercedes-Benz has discontinued its GLB seven-seater SUV in India. The SUV was launched in December 2022 and offered various premium features and specifications for its luxurious price. Being a seven-seater, the Mercedes-Benz GLB was ideal for a family or business trip. The car was available to buy in India at INR 68.3 lakh to INR 69.80 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an affordable choice among other models.
The luxury SUV was launched in India via the CBU route in three trims: Mercedes-Benz GLB Progressive, Mercedes-Benz GLB 220d 4MATIC, and Mercedes-Benz GLB 220d AMG Line 4MATIC. Mercedes-Benz GLB was discontinued in India likely due to failing sales. However, the company will continue to offer the fully-electric EQB model in India. The Mercedes-Benz EQB 250+ is priced between INR 72.20 lakh and the 350 variant at INR 78.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mercedes-Benz GLB Specifications and Features
The Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 Progressive had a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol variant with 163 hp power and 250 Nm of torque, along with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Mercedes-Benz GLB 200d variants were launched with a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of generating 190 hp power and 400 Nm torque. This unit was mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It is rumoured that the German automobile company may launch next-gen GLB variants in India soon. These would be built on the same MMA platform as featured in the CLA 3rd gen in March. Reports said that more improvements could be expected in terms of exterior design, structure, and interiors. The luxury automaker may introduce various new features for safety and comfort along with other upgrades.
