AGRA: The management committee of Shahi Idgah Masjid in Mathura has filed an “objection” over survey of the 16-century mosque, in the civil court on Monday. Last month, the court of additional civil judge (senior division) Sonika Verma had ordered officials to visit the disputed premises and conduct a survey of the complex. The court sought asurvey report with site plans and maps by January 20, 2023.
Tanveer Ahmed, secretary and counsel for the management committee of Shahi Idgah mosque, said, “We have filed a detailed application against the survey as no notice related to the case was received by us and we were not given a chance to defend. Petitions seeking a survey of the mosque are pending in various other cases in different Mathura courts, but none of the courts passed an order allowing a survey.”
He added: “We’ve apprised the court that orders for the survey were attained by the petitioners while misleading the court by stating incorrect facts. We have urged the court to set aside the order. ” The civil suit filed on December 8 last year seeks possession of the site on which the mosque stands and the removal of the Shahi Idgah.
