Man arrested after allegedly killing brother, injuring mother in Melbourne

A man suspected of killing his brother and stabbing his mother has been arrested following a full-scale manhunt through Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Shaun Sanderson was barefoot when he was arrested at a busy intersection in Preston about 2.40pm today after his 29-year-old brother was found dead and 62-year-old mother was allegedly stabbed in the neck at a home in Reservoir about 8.20am today.

9News understands the brother had attempted to run to a private hospital to get help after the alleged knife attack, which prompted heavily armed police to swarm the residential street.

Officers initially believed the 32-year-old was still inside the home and attempted to negotiate his surrender.

Two hours later, they stormed the house and found he had already fled. 

He had a gash on his cheek when the man hunt ended hours later. 

Police are belived to have seized wads of cash from him. 

The 65-year-old woman is in a stable condition in hospital.

Neighbour 82-year-old Pam Egan described the family who lived in the house as “always friendly”.

“They’re lovely beautiful family hard workers,” Egan said.

Sanderson was taken to Heidelberg Police Station, where he will interviewed and is expected to be charged later tonight.
