Lotto winner thought she was being scammed when she got the call

A Sydney retiree thought she was being scammed when lottery officials called to tell her she’d won $4.8 million.

The Guildford woman admitted she had “completely forgotten” buying her winning ticket.

“I’m absolutely astounded,” she said.

“I thought maybe somebody was messing with me, so I had to share the news with my nephew so he could help me out.”

Initially, she said, her nephew suspected a scam as well.

“But once he realised the truth, he couldn’t contain his excitement and joined in the celebration.”

The woman had the only division one winning ticket in the Set For Life lotto drawn on May 6.

The prize was $4.8 million, which will be paid in $20,000 monthly instalments for the next 20 years.

The happy winner is going to use the money to kick a few goals.

“I’d like to treat myself to a new computer,” she said.

“I will contribute towards a holiday for my beloved nephew as well, and look after some other loved ones.”
