India took over the presidency of the coveted G20 group starting December 1, 2022.
In an article penned for newspapers across the globe, PM Modi underscored the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (One World, One Family, One Future), and listed terror, climate change, pandemic as the greatest challenges that can be best fought together.
PM Modi said India’s G20 priorities will be shaped in consultation with not just our G20 partners, but also the fellow-travellers in the Global South – Asia, Africa and Latin America – whose voice often goes unheard.
He added, “India’s G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. Hence our theme – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future”.
Earlier, the White House had said the US is looking forward to supporting India’s G20 Presidency on a range of issues including addressing the current food and energy security challenges.
Besides India, the G-0 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union (EU).
Together, they account for over 80 per cent of the global Gross Domestic Product, 75 per cent of international trade and two-thirds of the world population.
