Kolkata Shocker: Mentally Ill Son Found Living With His Mother’s Decomposed Body for Several Days Detained for Questioning
Kolkata, October 11: A man was detained after the decomposed body of his elderly mother was found inside the house in Madan Dutta Lane area of Bowbazar in West Bengal. The police recovered the 70-year-old woman’s body, identified as Shikha Mukherjee on the ground floor of a small room on Tuesday morning, October 10. The room where the body was found was locked from outside. The 39-year-old mentally ill son Abhishek Mukherjee was found in another room, but he was unable to furnish any information on how his mother died. The fact that the body was found inside a locked room raised suspicions of potential homicide.
Police officials have detained the son who was later sent to SSKM Hospital for a check-up. Police believe that the son was part of the crime in some way.
Sikha Mukherjee who also showed signs of mental illness, lived with his mentally challenged son for several years in the three-story house on Madan Dutta Lane and had many properties. According to police, some neighbours contacted them on Monday nightand informed about a foul smell coming from the house. On entering the house, police found the decomposed body of the woman lying on the floor inside a locked room of the ground floor with things scattered around her. “According to the son’s information, he said he had contacted some neighbours, but nobody paid heed to his words,” Times of India quoted joint CP (crime) Shankha Shubhra Chakrabarty. “The decomposed body of the elderly woman was found at 2:30 am on the western side of the building. The room where she was found was locked from outside. The son, Abhishek Mukherjee was discovered to be mentally challenged after interrogation. He could not throw any light on how his mother died and kept quiet after saying her name. The body has been sent to medical college and a post-mortem is being conducted”, joint CP (crime) informed the media outlet.
