“Kishtwar Police have taken a crucial step in the pursuit of justice by producing a chargesheet in a case filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against two terrorists, namely Jahangir Saroori from Bhadat Saroor in Kishtwar and Mohammad Yousuf Chouhan from Chhar, Cherji, in Nagseni Kishtwar. The case has been presented before the NIA fast track court in Doda district,” Kishtwar SSP Khalil Poswal said.
Saroori has been active in J&K since 1992 and is glorified by Pakistani handlers while recruiting Kashmiri youth. He operated in Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and Bhaderwah areas before turning dormant for a long time. Later, he resumed terror activities and was the mastermind behind the murders of BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar in Kishtwar in November 2018. He also plotted the killings of RSS functionary Chandrakant Sharma and his bodyguard in April 2019. On October 22, 2019, Kishtwar Police announced a reward of Rs 30 lakh for any information leading to Saroori’s capture, besides putting up “wanted dead or alive” posters in the region for Saroori and his associates.
In sharp contrast, however, Saroori’s son Adnan hoisted the Tricolour on August 15 at his home in Kishtwar’s Saroor village as a part of the central government’s “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign. He expressed regret for his father’s actions while urging him to renounce terrorism and return home. Adnan, a class XII student, told reporters that he wanted to become a veterinarian and contribute positively to society.
