Karva Chauth has various mythological stories attached to it. One of the popular stories is about a┬аbeautiful princess named Veeravati. As per mythology, the princess, who was the only sister of her seven loving brothers, was married to a king. On the occasion of the first Karwa Chauth after her marriage, Veeravati came to her parents’ house. After sunrise, the princess observed a strict fast and as she was delicate, she fainted by evening.

Seeing the condition of the princess, her brothers decided to end her fast. Her seven brothers created an artificial moon for her and told her it was real. Rani Veeravati saw the artificial moon and broke her fast. The moment the Queen broke the fast and started eating, she received the news that her husband was dead. She was told by Lord Shiva and Parvati that it happened as she had broken her fast after looking at an artificial moon.
