Vyjayanthi Movies’ mega budget film Kalki 2898 AD toplining powerhouse pan-India talents like Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, among other notable actors, is set to create history at the box office. Early reports say the movie may break box office records this year, even of its own lead star, Prabhas. Kalki 2898 AD releases on June 27, 2024, in theatres worldwide in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
Touted as a Dystopian science-fiction film that meets Hindu mythology, Kalki 2898 AD has managed to create the right buzz. The Nag Ashwin-directed movie has reportedly sold nearly 1,25,000 tickets in the North America market and collected a whopping USD 3 million! The US is where Kalki 2898 AD was first promoted at the San Diego Comic-Con 2023 as the tentatively titled Project K. In fact, Kalki 2898 AD was launched as the first instalment in the freshly-minted Kalki Cinematic Universe (KCU). In India, the tickets for Kalki 2898 AD are being sold at a premium. Giving in to the hype, the Prabhas movie’s shows in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana – his home ground – are set to begin as early as 4:30 AM. Kalki 2898 AD will also release in IMAX format and in 3D across theatres.
Kalki 2898 AD has been made at a budget of INR 600 crore. Today News 24 spoke to movie trade expert Girish Wankhede for the opening box office predictions of Kalki 2898 AD. Here are excerpts from the exclusive chat.
Opening Box Office Prediction for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’
“Kalki 2898 AD will have the biggest opening of 2024. Advance bookings are looking good in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and even in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra due to the pan-India stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Prabhas and Kamal Haasan in the film. Kalki 2898 AD will collect INR 110 crore pan-India,” predicted Wankhede. Kalki 2898 AD Advance Booking: Over 77K Tickets Sold in North America for Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Sci-Fi Film.
The movie will do equally well worldwide, he said. “Worldwide, Kalki has crossed USD 3 million in advance booking ticket sales. The film is likely to collect INR 100 crore at the overseas box office on opening,” the trade expert said in his forecast for the box office.
