Kalki 2898 AD‘s box office collections have always been a source of contention and fan-wars ever since the film was released. Majorly pitted against Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbuster Jawan, Kalki 2898 AD was always predicted by trade experts to outgross the Atlee-directorial at the box office. Sometime back, producers of Kalki 2898 AD claimed that the film had grossed INR 1100 crore globally, thereby outperforming Jawan. However, as you might be aware, box office reporting is a tricky proposition in India – there are territories that aren’t easy to track, particularly in the South – and many have to rely on producer figures. However, according to another report in Sacnik – another website that tracks box office collections – Kalki 2898 AD has earned an estimated INR 634.88 crore in 35 days, which is less than Jawan‘s reported domestic collections. Also, according to Sacnik, Kalki 2898 AD has grossed INR 1027 crore worldwide, which is less than the producer figures, as you can see below. No matter what the actual numbers are, there is no denying that Kalki 2898 AD is a major blockbuster and is definitely one of the highest-grossers of all time when it comes to Indian cinema. Going by the upcoming releases (and with reports that Pushpa 2 might get postponed to 2025), it feels unlikely that any other movie can replace this Nag Ashwin directorial from being 2024’s highest-grossing movie of all time. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, among others.
PS: No matter which movie wins the box office war, the biggest beneficiary is Deepika Padukone. Pathaan, Jawan, Fighter and now Kalki 2898 AD – her last four releases have done more than INR 200 crore business at the box office, with three of them being ATBB.
