Waterloo, July 12: John Deere has announced a new round of layoffs after cutting 610 employees last month. The latest round of John Deere layoffs was implemented as the demand from farmers dropped. Deere & Company, doing business as John Deere, reportedly informed the employees about the job cuts and said more than 345 people based in Waterloo would be affected. Previously, the layoffs were announced for employees from Illinois and Iowa who would have to leave the company on August 30, 2024.

As per a report published by The Gazette, John Deere, a US-based world’s largest agricultural equipment manufacturer, announced by emailing the employees that it would lay off more than 345 employees working at John Deere Waterloo Operations. The latest round of John Deere layoffs targeted the production department employees, effective September 20, 2024. The company added, “This layoff is indefinite and affects production workers with the least seniority at Waterloo Operations.” GE Appliances Layoffs: US-Based Home Appliances Manufacturer Will Lay Off Around 2,700 Employees Amid Challenges Faced by Appliance Industry

Moreover, the company laid off seven more employees at John Deere Coffeyville Works in Coffeyville, Kansas. John Deere will let go of these employees starting on August 9, 2024. The company said that despite being the most significant global agriculture equipment manufacturer, it faced major economic challenges like many other companies. The challenges included rising global manufacturing and operations costs and reduced customer demand.

John Deere added that these changes were made due to declining product demand at the mentioned facilities. The report also noted the total number of employees working at these facilities. It said that John Deere Waterloo Operations had nearly 5,000 employees, of which 3,000 were working production and maintenance jobs. The John Deere Coffeyville Works had around 245 employees in total, and 145 worked in production.
