The new national team of JD-U has 32 members, of which 22 are general secretaries, seven secretaries, a vice president and a treasurer.

Former MP Magni Lal Mandal has been made the vice president of the party while former MLC Rajeev Ranjan Singh, who recently left BJP to join JD-U, has been given the responsibility of general secretary as well as the party’s national spokesperson.

Among the other general secretaries of the party are MP Ramnath Thakur, minister Sanjay Kumar Jha and Ghulam Rasool Balyawi, who was recently in news for his controversial statements, several MPs and legislators (present and former).

The notable omission was senior leader K C Tyagi, who was JD-U’s principal general secretary and principal spokesperson.

When contacted, Tyagi, who is in Delhi, told HT over phone, “During the last party meeting in Patna, Nitish Kumar had announced about my desire to relinquish party responsibilities and had talked about a new role for me.”

Also, the post of party’s parliamentary board chairman has also been left vacant. The post was earlier occupied by Upendra Kushwaha, who quit from the party to floated a new outfit earlier this year.

State committee formed

Meanwhile, JD-U state unit president Umesh Kushwaha also announced a 251-member state committee on Tuesday.

The committee has 20 vice presidents, 105 general secretaries, 114 secretaries, 11 spokespersons and one treasurer.

The revamp comes a year ahead of the parliamentary elections. “I have full faith that the new team will provide new energy to the organization with full dedication and strength,” Kushwaha said.
