India-Africa Army Chiefs conclave: We face common threats of terrorism, violent extremism, says COAS Gen Manoj Pande
Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande said India and Africa face common threats of terrorism and extremism and that the collective experience of the two regions can help in better preparations to deal with emerging security threats. The Army Chief was on Tuesday morning delivering the keynote address of the strategically significant India-Africa Army ChiefsтАЩ Conclave in Pune.
Addressing the gathering of chiefs of African armies, their representatives and other dignitaries, Gen Pande spoke about regional security issues and said, тАЬWe face common threats of terrorism and violent extremism that have the potential to adversely affect our development goals. Strengthening our cooperation and mutual capabilities in combating terrorism and extremism was one of the 10 guiding principles of cooperation with Africa announced by the honourable PM in 2018.тАЭ

The Army Chief further said, тАЬOur collective experience can help us to better prepare for the emerging security threats. Many African armies have the experience in operating in difficult and challenging environments and can offer valuable insights into the tactics, techniques and procedures.тАЭ
The conclave is focused on strengthening defence ties and building an institutionalised framework for better military-to-military cooperation between India and African countries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to address the gathering later in the day.
