JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday averted a major tragedy ahead of the upcoming Republic Day by recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 10.5kg in Jammu region’s Udhampur district. Udhampur SSP Vinod Kumar said the explosive was found in Khundar Top area of Basantgarh, adding that the recovery also included 500g RDX, seven live cartridges of 7.62mm, five detonators, and a letter pad of banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
A case under the Explosive Act & Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) was registered at Basantgarh and further investigations were on.
