Hotel in WA to install 590-metre electric fence after increase in crime

Kimberley Accommodation Group director Martin Peirson-Jones told radio station 6PR the decision was a “reluctant” one which came at a significant cost.

”The toll of sustained criminal activity, not just at the pub but in Halls Creek and the rest of the Kimberley has led us to this point,” he said.

The pub is one of the only accommodation options for fly-in, fly-out essential workers including doctors, nurses and tradies.

“There’s been a sequence of associated issues with TikTok crime and one-upmanship across the regions and collectives of youth in town sort of competing with one another, I think that’s one aspect,” he said.

“I think more than anything it’s about kids that don’t feel safe at home so they’re on the street together where they do feel safe.

“With the contribution of a minority of bad influences, they end up acting the way they do.”
