NEW DELHI: Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, in her first public statement after his arrest, delivered a message on Saturday on behalf of her husband. “I have struggled a lot, this arrest doesn’t surprise me,” she read out Kejriwal’s message at a virtual press conference.
Kejriwal in his letter affirmed his unwavering commitment to serving the nation throughout his life, even from the Enforcement Directorate‘s custody.
During the conference, Sunita Kejriwal said, “Your son and brother Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has sent a message from the jail – ‘my dear countrymen I have been arrested. Whether I am inside the jail or not, I will continue to serve the country. My entire life is dedicated to the country. I have struggled a lot in my life, and I know that this will continue. Therefore, this arrest has not surprised me’.”
Kejriwal, who on Friday was remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 28, in his letter advised AAP workers to not hate BJP members because of his arrest.
“I also appeal to all the workers of Aam aadmi party (AAP) that work of social welfare and public welfare should not stop with me going to jail. Don’t hate BJP people due to this. They are our brothers and sisters. I will come back soon,” Kejriwal wrote in his letter.
The Delhi CM in his letter asserted that no jail can keep him behind bars for long and he will soon come out and fulfil promises he made to the people of Delhi.
“There are several forces within and outside India that are weakening the country. We have to be alert, identify these forces and defeat them. Women in Delhi must be thinking that Kejriwal is behind bars. Who knows if they would get Rs 1000. I appeal to them to trust their brother, their son. There is no jail that can keep him behind bars for long. I will come out soon and keep my promise,” Sunita read Kejriwal’s message from jail.
Additionally, he urged women to seek blessings for him at temples, underscoring his belief in the power of collective prayers.
Kejriwal on Friday was sent to Enforcement Directorate’s custody till March 28, following his arrest in a money laundering case related to the excise policy. Kejriwal, the AAP’s national convener, was termed a “key conspirator” in the excise policy scam by the ED. The Rouse Avenue court granted a 10-day custody as per the ED’s request.
He will appear before the court on March 28 at 2 pm. Kejriwal appeared in the trial court after withdrawing his plea against the arrest by the agency.
