NEW DELHI: For the first time, the ministry of minority affairs and health ministry have come together to issue directions to states to not only enable pilgrims travelling on Haj 2023 to get the mandatory health screening and fitness certification from any government allopathic doctor, but also organise health and vaccination camps for the pilgrims, where health cards will be issued to them. Health desks will be set-up at all 25 embarkation points at airports.
India has been allocated a quota of 1.75 lakh by Saudi Arabia this year. Out of the total applications received, over 4,300 women (above 45 years), the highest so far, will to be travelling in the without mehram (male companion) category this year. In all, around 2.80 lakh applications have been received and the Haj committee will be soon declaring the final list of pilgrims who will be travelling.
At the special camps, pilgrims will be able to undergo the pre-departure detailed medical examination and mandatory vaccinations. It is proposed that the health status will be made available to the medical teams in Saudi Arabia through digital means for timely health service delivery, in case of any emergency.
The health ministry will also be sending a team of senior clinicians next week to plan for the requirement of temporary hospitals, dispensaries, pharmacies and camps as needed in Mecca, Medinah, Jeddah, Arafat and at the core ritual site of Mina.
Based on the assessment need for medical equipment and medicines , the same will be procured and made available by the ministry.
