A teacher at a school for children with mental disabilities and learning difficulties in Kolkata was asked by his employers last week to “go on a long leave”, reports Tamaghna Banerjee. They apparently feared that the teacher, who is HIV-positive, might infect students with the virus which, doctors say, is very difficult to transmit. Authorities of the school-cum-shelter, where the teacher (34) had been working, claimed they found out about his infection only last week.
