A teen girl has reportedly killed herself after learning that one of two men suspected of raping her had been released from custody.

Eda Nur Kaplan, 18, wrote a suicide note for her family and fell from a 15th-storey apartment in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

She plunged from her balcony at around 1am on August 7 after leaving a heart-breaking message for her mum telling her she felt “destroyed”, local media reports.

Neighbours at the apartment block where Eda shared a home with her older sister called emergency services for help.

However paramedics were unable to save the teen, and pronounced her dead at the scene.

A week before her alleged suicide, Eda reportedly filed a complaint with the police about two men who she claimed sexually abused her while drinking alcohol with her and her sister.

She was then taken to a medical centre to undergo checks after the incident, but doctors found no physical evidence of sexual assault, Turkish news site Haberler reports.

One suspect, identified as Mehmet A., was arrested after the victim gave his name to the police.

An investigation was launched to locate the other suspect, identified as Yusuf G., whose name was mentioned during Mehmet A.’s interrogation.

After his statement was taken by the police, Mehmet A. was released, reportedly due to a lack of evidence.

After learning of the suspect’s release, the victim sent her mother a harrowing message before allegedly taking her own life.

She was quoted as saying: “Mum, your little girl, I can’t stand it anymore, they destroyed your daughter.

“She couldn’t tell anyone anything, she always bottled it away, but it was too much.

“She can’t stand it anymore, she has no faith that things will be okay. She will feel the pain for just a moment instead of every single day.

“Remember, do not let me down, seek justice for me please. I could not stand it, but you can.

“I love you all very much, take care. I couldn’t do it, but the best is yet to come for you.”

Eda was buried on August 8 at Karsiyaka Cemetery in Ankara.

Her body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute to undergo an autopsy.

Both Yusuf G. and Mehmet A. have been detained since Eda’s death, Turkish press agency Bianet reports.

The investigation continues.
