Garbage Fire Spreads To Slum In Jabalpur; Parked Truck Turns Into Ashes In No Time

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A situation of chaos arose due to a massive fire in Ghazi Nagar Basti of Gohalpur police station area in the early hours of Tuesday. Fortunately, no life was lost.

It is said that a heap of garbage dumped near the slum caught fire, following which the flames spread.

A parked truck turned into ashes. Before the flames could engulf Ghazi Nagar Basti, the local people showed promptness and started to pour water to douse the flames.

Negligence of municipal corporation

The locals of Ghazi Nagar has alleged negligence of the Municipal Corporation behind such fire incidents. People say that a garbage house has been built by the Municipal Corporation near A and H blocks of Ghazi Nagar adjoining Lema Garden.

Heaps of flammable garbage dumped at the backside poses a constant threat of fire, they said. The slum residents also expressed disappointment, stating that no action has been taken despite their multiple complaints.

Suspected to be the act of mischievous elements

The alertness of the local people and the timely arrival of the fire brigade helped control the fire, however a truck was reduced to ashes.

Local people suspect that some mischievous element has set fire to the garbage house, the flames of which gradually moved towards the area and engulfed the truck. Local people have also demanded the police to investigate the entire matter.

A fear among the locals

Hundreds of shanties have been built around Ghazinagar and Lema Garden. The risk of fire looms large on the residents due to the garbage house at the back.

Several families have been affected by such fire accidents in the same area in past. Some of them even lost household goods worth lakhs.
