Titans Assistant Coach Brett White said he believed the woman’s life was being threatened at Budd’s Beach on Tuesday night when he overheard the alleged attack from his home.
Immediately intervening after hearing her screams for help, White ran across the road and pinned the alleged assailant down to the ground for more than five minutes before police arrived.
“She was just sitting there…and he’s got out of the car and come across, kicked an esky and smashed everything that was on the table and then yeah, pretty much just grabbed her and pulled her back on to the concrete,” White exclusively told 9News.
“I’ve just run across and got a hold of him, and lucky enough to be able to hold him down until police arrived.
“It was pretty vicious. And this is the thing, when does the violence stop? As a society, when do we stand up and say we don’t accept this anymore?”
The former New South Wales Blues star was in 2009 embroiled in one of the most iconic State of Origin brawls in history.
A defensive instinct that’s still running strong more than a decade on.
Asked if he believes the victim could have died that night, White said “definitely”.
“We need our leaders, our politicians, our court rooms to have a strong stance,” he said.
The 36-year-old alleged attacker was later charged by police.
