Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to meet BJP president JP Nadda amid buzz over future responsibility | India News
“BJP chief Nadda has called for a meeting and I will go to meet him,” Chouhan said.
The Chouhan-era in Madhya Pradesh came to an end last week after BJP replaced the four-time chief minister with Ujjain South MLA Mohan Yadav.
Chouhan, who was seen as the frontrunner in the Madhya Pradesh chief minister race, played a key role in BJP’s landslide victory in the recent state elections. However, he was replaced since the BJP wanted to go for a new line of leadership in all the three states where it won, including Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
Since stepping down from the post after nearly 16.5 years, there have been speculations about the next assignment for the 64-year-old.
Nadda had earlier suggested that veteran party leaders like Chouhan will be given a new responsibility within BJP according to their statutes.
It is not clear whether Chouhan will be given a position in the Union Cabinet or offered a position in the central leadership, like Raman Singh was in 2018. He may even be fielded for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The former chief minister has maintained that he will do whatever the party decides for him.
“I have always said that the BJP is a mission and when you work in a mission then you won’t decide, the mission decides for you. Whatever the party will decide, I will work for it. There are a few subjects like environment, women empowerment and child welfare, these are my favourite issues and I will continue to work for it from my heart,” Chouhan said.
