Nashik: Flamingos Return to Nandur Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary After Four Years, Attracting Tourists | SHANTANU DAS

Flamingos have arrived at Nandur Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary this year after traveling thousands of kilometers from the Rann of Kutch. Approximately thousands of birds from all over the country and abroad have entered the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the flamingos are seen roaming freely in the area after a long period of four years, which is a sight for bird lovers, nature enthusiasts, and tourists who were eagerly waiting to see them. This year, the prolonged return of rains, resulting in fewer wetlands and marshes, and cloudy weather for the last eight days, along with unseasonal rains, have reduced the number of birds.

The number of foreign birds is expected to increase by the end of this month or in January. Every year, birds start arriving at Nandur Madhyameshwar Bird Sanctuary from the Himalayas, as well as from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Europe, in November. Naturally, this sanctuary is crowded with tourists in winter. However, this year the rains lasted for a long time. Naturally, due to this, it was difficult for the birds to find food due to the lack of wetlands and marshes, so the birds turned their backs on the sanctuary.

Last month, it started getting colder and the flamingos, which are a special attraction of the bird sanctuary, arrived. Along with this, foreign birds such as sword duck, small maral, whistled duck, yellow duck, purple water hen, spotted eagle, marsh hawk, sonula, vachak, purple heron, rakhi heron, tarang, warkari, spotted pigul, water crow, and archer, etc. are also seen roaming in the sanctuary area. In the evening, the area becomes bustling with the chirping of birds in the dense forest.

Meanwhile, as the birds have started arriving late this year, there will be a rush of tourists in a few days. After bird watching, tourists prefer to eat fish here; there is a special method of preparing fish in the area. Due to this, trips are made in winter. The forest department has provided facilities here for the convenience of tourists. Special towers and telescopes have been placed for bird watching. Guides are also working here to provide detailed information about the birds.

Arrival of Flamingos

Flamingos had not come to the Nandur Madhyameshwar Sanctuary for the last four years. Their arrival after four years has become a special attraction for tourists. The flamingo bird, which comes from the Rann of Kutch and is four feet tall, has a long beak, high legs, and is red under its wings. It looks like a flame of fire when flying in the sky, hence it is called Omnipankh. It is also known as Rohit in the Himalayas.
