Ferozepur: 22-Year-Old Prints Fake Currency Worth INR 3.42 Lakh at His Home After Having Discussions With PUBG Friend, Arrested After Police Receive ‘Tip-Off’

Ferozepur, August 12: A 22-year-old boy from Ferozepur district has been arrested following a “tip-off” on August 2 for printing alleged fake Indian currency notes at his house. The Ferozepur police reported that they seized fake Indian currency from his possession, including denominations of INR 500, INR 200, and INR 100, with a total value of INR 3.42 lakh. He took a PUBG user’s help and watched videos online to learn how to print fake currency notes.

The boy, identified as Jaskaran Singh, AKA Rajan, resides in Basti Macchian in Zira town in the border district of Ferozepur. He executed this plan with a neighbour friend, Akashdeep Singh. Rajan provided Akashdeep with fake currency worth INR 50,000 in INR 500 denominations. Akashdeep attempted to use the fake notes among gamblers, but the scheme failed and led to a scuffle when it was discovered the notes were counterfeit. Rajan began printing counterfeit currency notes about a month and a half ago. According to The Indian Express, he used only a small portion of these fake notes, distributing them to small vendors such as burger shops and fruit carts. Ferozepur Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff in charge, Inspector Mohit Dhawan, said, “Rajan used to play PUBG games and held discussions with a fellow user who went by the username Ajit. Dhawan reported that Rajan consulted Ajit from Delhi about printing fake currency and obtained special A4 paper with a specific GSM from Ludhiana. He purchased an HP Smart Tank 580 printer from Flipkart for around Rs 14,000. Rajan also experimented with adding security threads by splitting higher GSM paper. Although he claimed to have printed only one Rs. 500 note as a test, it hasn’t been recovered. The seized notes lacked security threads but were well-aligned and correctly coloured.

The officer reported that Rajan was charged under sections 178, 180, and 181 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for counterfeiting currency. Following this, his accomplice, Akashdeep Singh, his neighbour, was also arrested.
