Chandigarh: Even as various farmers’ unions on Tuesday collectively scaled up their efforts to mobilise support for their “rail roko’’ protest in Punjab on Wednesday, the disruption in the movement of various trains running in various parts of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, seemed imminent.

The said protest comes after several attempts of the protesting farmers to take their “Delhi chalo’’ foot march towards Delhi from Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana which was thwarted by the Haryana police earlier this month.

The leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) who held a meeting – which was attended by representatives of various groups of farmer unions – at Shambhu border said that a plan was finalised at the meeting for the participation of various unions at different points of all the 23 district of the state on December 18 from 12 noon till 3 pm.

These points are located in district Moga, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Bathinda, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Muktsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Mansa and Ropar.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the railway authorities were working on plans to mitigate the impact of the said stir.

The farmer leaders following their meeting, held at Shambhu border, also appealed to all village panchayats, sports clubs, youth organisations, and other social-religious institutions to contribute in every possible way to the success of tomorrow’s “rail roko’’ program. They said this program aimed to achieve success in the ongoing struggle, including the 22-day hunger strike led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal and the goal is to fulfill 12 demands, including MSP (minimum support price) and debt waiver.

According to information, the meeting was attended by leaders of different factions of Bharatiya Kisan Union and Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union.

SKM MEETING ON NEXT STEP TODAY

Meanwhile, according to information, the leaders of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has also called a meeting on Wednesday to chalk out the next course of action.

Meanwhile, the health of the farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, 70, whose fast-unto-death entered the 22nd day on Tuesday, continued to worsen.
