Instagram users also appear to have been struck by the outage with 21,300 taking to Downdetector to report their struggles.

Half of these had issues with the app, 50% while 26% had server connection problems and 24% struggled with the website.

Facebook users saw an error page or a message saying their browser could not connect.

WhatsApp and Instagram users could access the apps but were unable to see any new content, including any sent or received messages.

Facebook’s communications executive Andy Stone has tweeted to say the social media giant is aware of the current issues and is “working to get things back to normal.”

Twitter, however, doesn’t seem to have been affected, with people already flocking to the social media giant to check they are not the only ones struggling with the other platforms.

One took to Twitter to post a meme of panicking social users wondering what is happening.

While one joked about how they rebooted their router five times only to discover if had nothing to do with their broadband.
