Addressing concerns over excessive ethylene oxide (EO) use in Indian spices, FISS Chairman Ashwin Nayak reassured the public, stating, “It has no harm to humans.” Speaking at a spice stakeholder meeting in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Friday, May 17, Nayak highlighted the importance of EO treatment for controlling microbiological parameters.  He notes that while some Indian spice brands exceeded permissible EO levels, such treatment is common internationally, with the USA treating 80-90 per cent of its spices,  reinforcing its effectiveness in ensuring food safety. What Is Ethylene Oxide?
