One man was killed and another critically injured after receiving an electric shock from a high-tension power transmission cable while installing a television cable on the terrace of a house in the Kothrud area of Pune Thursday morning.
Officials from the Kothrud police station said the incident occurred around 11.30 am in the Sutardara area of Kothrud. They identified the deceased as Pundalik Laxman Shinde, 33, a resident of Sutardara and the man who suffered severe burn injuries as Swapnil Shivram Bodke, 28, also from the same area.
Senior inspector Hemant Patil, in charge of the Kothrud police station, said, тАЬInitial information suggests that the two men were laying the cable of a direct-to-home television set and taking the cable from one building terrace to another. They received an electric shock from the high-tension power transmission cable. One person died. The other was critically injured and is being treated for burn injuries.тАЭ
тАЬPrimary probe suggests that the high-tension power cable is of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL). We are also investigating under what circumstances they came in contact with the cable. We are initiating communication with the MSETCL and will seek details from them,тАЭ he added
Officials said a case of accidental death pending a probe into causes was registered at the Kothrud police station.
