Dr Raju Varyani takes charge as IMA Pune chief, wants public participation in healthcare initiatives

Dr Raju Varyani Sunday (April 2) took charge as president of the Indian Medical Association’s Pune branch. He succeeded Dr Meenakshi Deshpande during a ceremony at Dr Nitu Mandke IMA House.

IMA national president Dr Sharad Kumar Agarwal was the chief guest, and he said this year’s World Health Day (April 7) would have the theme ‘health for all’ and be observed as ‘Samarpan Divas’.

He emphasised the need for IMA members to be more active on social media. He appealed to doctors and their family members to subscribe to the IMA YouTube and Facebook channels and spread awareness about the charitable work done by the doctors, apart from educating the commoners about lifestyle modification updates on the current medical issues they faced.

IMA Maharashtra president Dr Ravindra Kute also appreciated the excellent work done by the IMA Pune branch.

Dr Varyani said he had plans to organise CPR training sessions for non-medical people. “We will also create awareness about using automated external defibrillators (AED) among doctors. We would like to involve common people and students in our projects like anti-tobacco initiatives, organ donation, blood donation and health awareness,” he said.

The new team of office bearers for 2023-24 includes president-elect – Dr Rajan Sancheti, vice president – Dr Sunil Ingale, treasurer – Dr Alka Kshirsagar, secretary – Dr Geetanjali Sharma, secretary – Dr Kedar Patil, joint secretary – Dr Virendra Ostwal, assistant secretary and joint treasurer – Dr Sachin Lakade, IPP president – Dr Meenakshi Deshpande.
