Chepseba was riding his motorcycle along я╗┐Middleborough Road and Burwood Highway in Burwood East on Friday when another driver allegedly ran a red light, resulting in the vehicles colliding.
Young father Diesel Handley, 18, has been charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, driving while authorisation suspended, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
Chepseba’s inconsolable family said it was always his dream to own a motorbike.
His bike was his “pride and joy” and had only just been registered that day.
“It’s very difficult as a mother to lose a child,” Rose Chepseba said through tears.
Her last moment with her son was just days before he died when he dropped her off at the airport.
“He gave me that tight hug – little did I know that was the last one,” she said.
“Then he told me mum ‘I love you’.”
Chepseba had moved to Australia just 18 months ago and had worked his way up from cleaning buses to a disability support work.я╗┐
It was that job he was on his way to when tragedy struck.
я╗┐”His presence will be missed, nothing can replace that,” Chepseba’s sister Valentine said.
“He’d tell me you know: I’m just living my childhood dream, things I never got as a kid, I’m going to get that now, yeah I’m gonna get that now.”
In one comforting prospect, police have revealed in Chepseba’s final moments he was surrounded by love.
Members of the public ran to his aid and made sure he didn’t die alone.
“It’s very painful, very painful,” Rose said.
