Delhi Shocker: Woman Found Dead in Bed Box Lived Separately From Husband, Not in Touch With Parents; Probe Launched

New Delhi, March 29: A day after a woman’s body was found inside a bed box in a Delhi flat, police on Saturday said she was living separately from her husband and not in contact with her parents in Punjab’s Ludhiana. The woman, in her 30s, has been identified as Punjab native Anju alias Anjali. However, her parents have been contacted for proper verification and more details, they said.

On Friday, the decomposing body of a woman was found in a bed box, wrapped in a blanket, in a flat in Delhi’s Shahdara, the police said. The owner of the house, Vivekanand Mishra, was apprehended for questioning. “A police team has been sent to Ludhiana to bring her parents here for proper identification as they are very poor,” a senior police officer said. He added that Anju was also not in touch with her parents. Mishra, aged between 55 to 60 years, was apprehended on Friday and being questioned, the police said “We are trying to corroborate statements and find the motive of the crime,” said the officer. A PCR call was received at Vivek Vihar Police Station regarding a foul smell emanating from a DDA Flat in the area, police said in a statement.

“When police reached the spot, they found the house locked from the outside and traces of blood near the back door,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said in the statement. On opening the premises, a woman’s decomposed body was found inside a bed storage compartment, he added. It was wrapped in a blanket. She appeared to be married as she was wearing red bangles. During the initial investigation, the police found that Mishra had visited the flat on Thursday night and Friday afternoon, sources said. Forensic teams have inspected the scene of the crime, and further investigation is in progress, police said.
