At least four men abducted a 20-year-old deaf and mute Dalit woman in an SUV, took her to an isolated place in a forest area and allegedly raped her there before abandoning her in an unconscious state in Rajasthan’s Barmer, police said on Friday.
Sukhdev Bishnoi, a local police officer, said that they have filed a case and were looking for the accused. He quoted the woman’s father saying she was abducted on Thursday evening while she was grazing cattle. The woman was hospitalised and reported to be stable.
Police superintendent Deepak Bhargav, who rushed to oversee the probe into the case, said that the woman was not in a condition to get her statement recorded. He added that her family has lodged the case against unknown accused. Police have constituted probe teams to arrest the accused.
Bhargav said a medical board has been formed and they are awaiting its report.
