A dad who must really, really love his office job has caused a stir by naming his son ‘Department Of Statistical Communication’ in honour of his place of work.

Slamet ‘Yoga’ Wahyudi, from the Indonesian regency of Brebes, said that he had agreed with his wife during her pregnancy that he would be allowed to pick their newborn’s name if she gave birth to a boy.

When the couple’s son arrived in December, the civil servant used his naming power to call him ‘Dinas Komunikasi Informatika Statistik’ (Department of Statistical Communication).

The dad told a local news site that his wife, Ririn Linda Tunggal Sari, was on board with the decision, claiming: “At first it sounded strange, but thank God my wife did not mind.”

His son will go by the shortened name of Dinko

It’s not clear if the name has been accepted by the Indonesian authorities

Friends and family of the couple, including their own parents, voiced their concerns over the unorthodox choice and Yoga says he accepted their scepticism but ended up sticking to the name undeterred.

His relatives will be relieved to know that in an act of compromise, the dad agreed that his child would go by the shortened name of ‘Dinko’ in his day-to-day life.

Yoga, who is 38 years old, has worked as a public servant for more than 10 years, joining the Indonesian civil service back in 2009.

He said that he hopes his son will grow up to be devoutly religious and “devoted to his family” – but it’s not clear if Indonesian authorities have formally accepted the unconventional name.

Previously, two other new parents took up an internet provider’s offer of free WiFi for 18 years in exchange for naming their baby in honour of the company.

Swiss internet provider Twifi advertised the offer on its website, stating that parents who name their little ones Twifius or Twifia will surf the web free of charge until their offspring becomes an adult.

The couple, who chose to remain anonymous, are said to have agreed to the offer by giving their baby girl a second middle name of Twifia and said they will used the money they save on their internet bill to create a savings account for their daughter.
