Cyclone Dana News Update: Cyclone Likely To Intensify Into Severe Cyclonic Storm by October 24 Morning, Set To Hit Odisha and West Bengal, Says IMD

Cyclonic storm “Dana” has been moving northwestwards at a speed of 12 kmph over the past six hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday, October 23. According to the IMD, as of 5:30 pm today, the storm was centred over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near latitude 17.2° N and longitude 88.9° E. It is currently positioned approximately 420 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 450 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha), and 500 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), IMD said. The storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by early morning on October 24. It is projected to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island, near Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha), between midnight of October 24 and the morning of October 25. The severe cyclonic storm is anticipated to bring wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, with gusts up to 120 kmph, IMD added. Cyclone Dana News Update: Cyclonic Storm To Bring Very Heavy Rain in West Bengal on October 24 and 25, Over 150 Trains Cancelled.
